Before You Arrive

Most patients walk in not knowing what to expect from a medical marijuana evaluation — whether it will feel clinical, whether they will be judged, or whether they will get turned away. The honest answer is that a Miracle Leaf evaluation is a straightforward medical appointment. Our physician's job is to determine whether your documented condition qualifies you under Florida law and whether medical marijuana is appropriate for your situation.

There are two things that make the difference between a smooth visit and one that hits a snag: having the right documents and having a realistic understanding of the qualifying criteria. Both are covered below.

What to Bring

Required items are non-negotiable — the physician cannot certify you without them. Helpful items speed up the process and strengthen your case.

Required Valid Florida driver's license or state-issued ID
Required Medical records showing your qualifying condition
Required Payment — $179 new patient / $119 renewal
+ Helpful List of current medications and dosages
+ Helpful Any specialist referral letters or diagnoses
+ Snowbirds Proof of Florida seasonal residency
On medical records: The most common reason an evaluation hits a delay is insufficient documentation of the qualifying condition. A prescription printout or a pharmacy label is not the same as medical records showing a diagnosis. Ideally you bring a letter or records from your primary care physician or specialist that names your diagnosis. If you are unsure what to bring, call us at (561) 888-6111 before your appointment.

What Happens During Your Visit

1
Arrival · ~2 min

Check in at the front desk

You check in, present your Florida ID, and confirm your appointment. Our team is friendly and straightforward — there is no judgment and no complicated intake form. If you have questions before seeing the physician, this is a good time to ask.

2
Records review · ~5 min

Medical records are reviewed

Your medical records are reviewed to confirm the presence of a qualifying condition under Florida Statute 381.986. The physician or a staff member may ask clarifying questions about your history, how long you have had the condition, and what treatments you have tried previously.

This step goes faster when your records clearly name the diagnosis. A one-page letter from your primary care physician stating your diagnosis is often more useful than a thick folder of test results.
3
Physician evaluation · ~15 min

One-on-one with the physician

You meet privately with our Florida-licensed physician. The physician will review your qualifying diagnosis, ask about your symptoms and how they affect your daily life, review your current medications for relevant interactions, and confirm your Florida residency. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions about the certification process, product types, or what to expect at a dispensary.

The physician must independently confirm your eligibility — this is not a formality. Florida law requires a genuine clinical determination, not a rubber stamp.
4
If approved · same day

Physician submits your OMMU certification

If you qualify, the physician enters your certification directly into the Florida OMMU registry before you leave. The delivery methods approved for your condition — flower, vaporized products, tinctures, capsules, edibles, or topicals — are specified in your certification based on your clinical evaluation.

5
Before you leave · ~3 min

You receive your Patient ID number

Before you walk out, our team provides your OMMU Patient ID number. This is what you take to a dispensary for your first visit. You do not need to wait for the physical card to arrive — your Patient ID number plus your Florida ID is all a licensed dispensary needs to verify your registry status and complete a sale.

Total visit time for most new patients: under 30 minutes from check-in to walking out with your Patient ID.

What If You Are Not Approved?

The physician must make an independent clinical judgment. If your documentation does not clearly support a qualifying diagnosis under Florida Statute 381.986, the physician may decline to certify you or ask you to return with additional records. This is not a permanent outcome.

Common reasons a visit requires a follow-up rather than same-day certification:

  • Medical records are incomplete or do not name the qualifying diagnosis explicitly
  • The condition named does not meet the qualifying criteria without comorbid documentation
  • The patient is unable to provide adequate proof of Florida residency
  • The patient is under 18 and arrives without a registered caregiver present

Returning Patients — Renewal Evaluations

If you are an existing Miracle Leaf patient returning for your 210-day renewal, the process is shorter. Your medical history and qualifying condition documentation are already on file — the physician conducts a brief re-evaluation to confirm your condition is still present and that your current treatment plan remains appropriate.

Renewal evaluation fee: $119. You still need to bring your Florida ID and your current OMMU card. The physician re-enters your certification the same day, and you pay the $75 annual OMMU state registration fee through the patient portal afterward — exactly as you did for your initial registration.

What Patients Say About the Experience

Went to my appointment to see the "marijuana doctor" and was pleased to see such a beautiful store in downtown West Palm Beach. The staff was super sweet and the doctor was quick — I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Karen B. Royal Palm Beach, FL ★★★★★

I was rear ended on I-95 and had extreme back pain for months. I was recommended to try cannabis as a medical treatment to relax the nerves and muscles. The evaluation at Miracle Leaf was easy and professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Miracle Leaf evaluation take?

Most new patient evaluations are completed in under 30 minutes from check-in to walking out with your Patient ID number. Renewal evaluations for existing patients are typically shorter — usually 15–20 minutes — because your records are already on file.

What do I need to bring to my evaluation?

Required: a valid Florida driver's license or state-issued ID, medical records documenting your qualifying condition, and payment ($179 for new patients, $119 for renewals). Helpful but not required: a list of current medications, any specialist letters or referrals, and for snowbirds, proof of Florida seasonal residency.

What does the physician actually check at the evaluation?

The physician reviews your medical history and qualifying diagnosis, confirms your Florida residency, checks your current medications for relevant interactions, and determines whether medical marijuana is clinically appropriate for your condition. If approved, your OMMU certification is entered into the state registry at the time of your appointment.

Can I be denied at my evaluation?

Yes. The physician must make an independent clinical determination — the evaluation is not a formality. If your documentation does not clearly support a qualifying diagnosis under Florida Statute 381.986, the physician may ask you to return with additional records. This is why bringing complete medical records is important. Call us before your visit if you are unsure what to bring.

What happens immediately after my evaluation?

If approved, the physician submits your OMMU certification during your appointment and you receive your Patient ID number before you leave. With that number and your Florida ID, you can visit any licensed Florida dispensary the same day. Your physical OMMU card arrives by mail in approximately 10 business days after you complete the $75 state registration online.

Does Miracle Leaf offer same-day appointments?

Miracle Leaf is open 6 days a week and welcomes walk-ins. You can also book online or by phone at (561) 888-6111. Check our pricing and scheduling page for current availability.
